Moving to Qingdao - Schooling

Qingdao offers a high standard of education covering a variety of curricula, including IB, American diploma, and British National Curriculum. Class sizes typically do not exceed 20 students: a good teacher to student ratio.

Schooling in Qingdao, international or otherwise, has admissions procedures that may include an interview, submission of previous academic records, an entrance exam, or an ESL (English as a Second Language) assessment. You usually need to pay a deposit as part of the application. Non-native English speakers may be enrolled in an ESL program. Application processes can be long and tricky, but don’t worry! At APA we can help with this and liaise with the school on a family’s behalf to monitor availability.

Some examples of international schools are:
Qingdao MTI International School (ISQ):The first international school established in Qingdao, ISQ offers K-12 College preparatory education geared toward admission to top US and Korean universities, with standardized testing and Advanced Placement (AP) classes.

Qingdao No. 1 International School of Shandong (QISS): Accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges, AP classes are available. PreK-12.

Yew Chung International School (YCIS): YCIS has two Qingdao campuses, in Shazikou and in Huangdao. YCIS draws top educators from around the world, teaches according to British National Curriculum. From kindergarten- year 11.

Qingdao American International School (QAIS): The only international school located in downtown, in the historic Badaguan area. It is the newest International School and teaches according to American National Standards.

International Department of No. 58 Middle School (‘No. 58’): Offers both Chinese and American diplomas, with a curriculum developed to accommodate both systems. As a department within a Chinese public school, No. 58 affords a much more localized experience than other international schools.
