Moving to Dalian

Located on a long peninsula and surrounded on three sides by the Yellow Sea, Dalian is a charming coastal city in north east China that has become a popular resort town as well as a hi-tech manufacturing city. It is one of China’s more attractive cities, with garden-like downtown streets that are bordered by modern architect-designed buildings as well as Japanese and Russian style buildings, many of which date back almost a century. Fabulous bathing beaches and a spectacular rugged coast line add interest and beauty to this very pleasant city.

More recently, Dalian has begun to attract high tech companies with advantageous tax breaks and a brand new high tech zone.

Due to the smaller community of foreigners, there is more of a closeness in the community, but a lack of the amenities to support foreigners. Imported goods from Europe will be harder to find than in other cities like Beijing, and professional and social associations will be fewer. Also, most of the foreigners in Dalian are still Japanese or Korean.
