Q: I'll be assigned to work in China for one year, what kind of visa should I apply for, Business Visa or Employemnt visa?
A: There is quite a difference between a Business Visa and an Employment visa. In this case, you should apply for an Employment visa (Work permit and Residence permit) as you will be assigned to China for employment.

A Business Visa (F Visa) is issued to a foreigner who is invited to China for a visit, an investigation, a lecture, to do business, scientific-technological and culture exchanges, short-term advanced studies or internship for a period of no more than six months (Please note that generally F visas are issued for a maximum of 90 days and a one year F visa is extremely rare).
An Employment Visa (Z Visa) and Work Permit and Residence Permit are issued to a foreigner who comes to China for employment. Short term Z visas and resident permits will also be issued to accompanying family members.
For more details please consult the APA immigration department.
