Moving to Xiamen - Housing
There are many choices for housing in Xiamen and each has its own attraction. However, it is important to note that even though Western-style housing is increasing, the fast pace does not necessarily translate to Western-style management. You will definitely have to learn to be patient and things often do not go the way you want, but APA will make sure that your transition to Xiamen is as smooth as possible! The more popular areas for expat housing are:
Yuandang Lake: Probably the most popular area with expatriates. It is right in the Central Business District; you can still breathe in the rather fresh air, and have a wonderful view of the lake from your apartment.
Gulangyu Island: It is an island blessed with fabulous scenery, a quiet place where most of the housing options are villas. There is a passenger ferry to transfer you to the city center, where you can find lots of shopping and restaurants. On the island, however, there are no vehicles and few places for shopping or for entertainment.
Lundu to Hexiangxi: A convenient location with many shopping centers, cafes and restaurants. A downside here is that apartments here in this area cost more than in other areas. It is very close to Zhongshaniu, the city centre.
Xiada: A university area, a place by the sea. Mainly popular by students.
Lianhua: The lifestyle here is characterized by a combination of tradition and modernity. While many buildings in this area do not match well to foreign tastes, you will find small alleys attractive. It is a very convenient area for daily needs shopping: Carrefour, Trustmart, B&Q and Laiya Department Stores are all nearby
